Pukulan - Striking in SBL
Position. Coordinate. Connect.
___ 01 / Learn
Overview
Striking in SBL is developed through movement, balance and timing. The position of your body and the way you move support the action of the strike.
Training explores how striking connects with defensive movement, changes of angle and the wider system.
___ 02 / Learn
More Than
the Limb
A strike involves the organisation of the whole body. Posture, footwork and coordination influence whether you can act without overreaching or losing your position.
Begin with a clear understanding of the movement. Develop control and consistency before increasing speed or intensity.

Pukulan
Pukulan is the striking area of SBL practice. Training includes the ability to connect strikes while adjusting to movement and position.
Sequences provide a way to study coordination and continuity. With guidance, partner and pad work help you explore how those movements relate to distance and timing.
___ 04 / Learn
Footwork
Creates
the
Opportunity
Footwork helps place you at an appropriate distance and angle. It also affects your ability to recover or continue after an action.
Give attention to how you arrive at a position. A familiar strike may need a different entry when the distance or direction changes.
___ 05 / Learn
Timing &
Recovery
Timing connects your action to the movement around you. Controlled drills give you space to recognise openings without rushing the response.
Recovery is equally important. Practise returning to a useful position and maintaining awareness after each action, so that the sequence remains connected.
___ 06 / Learn
Connecting
the Ranges
Striking is studied within a wider system that includes grappling, takedowns and ground movement. Contact and changes of position can alter which action is appropriate.
Training these relationships helps you recognise when to continue, adjust or disengage. Your instructor can introduce the relevant transitions progressively.

Build Skill through Controlled Practice
Solo
Study Use familiar movements to refine posture, coordination and recovery.
Pad Work
Work with a competent partner and agreed intensity to explore accuracy, distance and connected movement.
Partner Drills
Follow the drill’s purpose and contact limits. Keep enough control to stop or adjust immediately.
