___ GUIDANCE & LEADERSHIP

Our Instructors

Qualified teachers guiding students through the SBL system with clarity,

responsibility and continued development.

___ 01 / Our instructors

Learn through qualified guidance.

Instructors help students understand the syllabus, train safely and connect principles to practical movement. Their role is not simply to demonstrate, it is to observe, explain, correct and support long-term progress.

Because SBL covers upright fighting, ground fighting, striking, grappling, takedowns, Kembangan, multiple attackers and weapons, instructors help students see how these areas work together rather than treating them as unrelated subjects.

Some lead dedicated SBL clubs; others integrate SBL into established martial arts schools or local study groups.

A Shared Teaching Standard

SBL instructors develop through structured training, assessment and continued practice.

They are certified at designated stages within the art by the Founder and Chief Instructor. Their teaching scope reflects the training and assessment they have completed, so instructors may be at different stages of their own development.

Students should expect instruction that is progressive, responsible and connected to the recognised SBL curriculum.

Qualification is an important milestone, but it is not the end of an instructor's journey. Teaching requires continued study, reflection and refinement.

One system. Many teachers. A shared standard.

Different Settings. One System.

SBL instructors teach in several different settings.

Some lead dedicated SBL clubs. Others run their own martial arts schools and include SBL within their wider teaching. Instructors may also support local study groups, seminars, workshops or online training.

The setting may change, but the responsibility remains the same: to represent the system accurately, maintain appropriate standards and help students develop through consistent practice.

Wherever possible, students are encouraged to combine technical study with instructor feedback, partner training and regular contact with the wider SBL community.

___ 05 / Our Instructors

Continued Instructor Training

SBL is a living system, and its instructors remain students of the art.

Continued development allows instructors to revisit the syllabus, deepen their understanding of its principles and improve how they communicate material to different people.

This ongoing relationship also keeps local teaching connected to developments within the wider system.

The strongest instructors do more than pass on information. They help create capable, thoughtful practitioners who can continue learning for themselves.
